7 Things you need to know about Residential Roof Cleaning
N
OTE: Roof cleaning can save you money. However, choosing the wrong roof cleaner can cost you more than a new roof.
Anyone can purchase a soft wash system, offer a low price and call themself a roof cleaning pro. But what happens when a roof cleaner has an accident and is injured? Instead of how much does roof cleaning cost or how many reviews do you have:
1) The first question cautious property owners ask a roof cleaning company is, do you have Workers Compensation Insurance.
The internet is full of roof washing or roof cleaning searches, including: What does roof cleaning cost, soft washing services, roof shampoo services, home advisors, 5-star reviews, power washing services turned low pressure or soft wash roof cleaners, and many more. However, what you do NOT see is the most important aspect of roof cleaning: roof cleaning is hazardous. Regardless of a roof cleaners' experience or reviews, you can be seriously injured or killed performing roof cleaning services.
WARNING: America's Most Dangerous Jobs list a Roofer in its Top Ten Most Dangerous Jobs. A roof cleaner could be the most dangerous job when adding water and chemicals to the roof's surface.
You should not take roof cleaning lightly. Roof cleaning is not just another service performed on your property or just another item added to your DIY honey-do list. Therefore, before watching a YouTube video, purchasing a Do It Yourself roof washing product, a scrub brush, a pressure washer, a pump sprayer, and adding "attempt roof cleaning" to your honey-do list, remember it is your roof you are ATTEMPTING to clean, not your carpet.
If you are smart and hire a roof cleaning company, make sure that the company that performs work on your property has Workers Compensation Insurance. Workers Compensation Insurance not only protects the workers, but it also protects the property owner and the company.

2) The second question knowledgeable property owners ask a roof cleaning company is in addition to Workers Compensation Insurance, do you have General Liability Insurance.

3) The third question awake property owners ask a roof cleaning company is, are you fully licensed by the State.
NOTE: A City Business License is not a State Contractor's License. Anyone, including criminals, can buy an online (Home Advisor, Google review stars, ...) badge and a city business license. A State Contractor's License requires passing a test and criminal history.
NOTE: Before any work begins on the Federal Government, State Governments, City Governments, and major Companies' properties, they require a company to be licensed by the State. Also, a company must have Workers Compensation Insurance, General Liability Insurance, and Commercial Insurance. So homeowners, get smart, protect yourself.

4) The fourth question informed property owners ask a roof cleaning company is, does your roof cleaning service require water pressure or chemical pressure to remove algae, mold, moss, and lichen infestation from my roof. Unfortunately, most property owners call concerning their roof algae, lichen, mold, and moss problems long after the infestation has heavily infested most of their roof. At this stage of growth, if the roof infestation is removed or cleaned incorrectly, the process can rapidly decrease the remaining life of the roof shingles. Low-pressure roof washing services, roof shampooing services, and roof soft washing services merely lower and raise the pressure on a pressure washer to remove stains from the roof. This procedure is called low-pressure roof cleaning.
The operator of a pressure washer solely determines low pressure. Water pressure applied to a roof shingle, whether low-pressure roof washing, low-pressure roof shampooing, low pressure roof bleaching, or low-pressure soft washing, can cause damage to the roof shingle. The ripping or swirling of low-pressure roof cleaning removes the surface algae, mold, moss, and lichen infestation along with the shingle granules.

5) The fifth question awake property owners ask a roof cleaning company is, how long have you been in the roof cleaning business (not the franchise you purchased). A roof cleaning company that has been in business for a while means that there is a greater chance you can count on their quality of service and experience. Also, if an established roof cleaning company offers a re-treatment warranty, they are more likely to be in business to honor it rather than a "fly-by-night" roof cleaner.
WARNING: A few signs of an inexperienced "fly-by-night" roof cleaner are; one-price fits all online quotes, bait and switch prices, bait and switch ads, "I can beat anybody's price," "we do what they do." When you ask about State license and insurance, they mention that we do not have to be State licensed and fully insured, or they change the subjects to 5-star reviews, bleach, environment friendly, low-pressure, soft washing, no pressure, on and on. Be Smart. Always ask to see state license, workers compensation insurance, general liability insurance, and multiple before and after pictures with addresses before you agree to any work on your property. Simply choosing a company based on reviews and the lowest price can cost you. Do your homework.

6) The sixth question cautious property owners ask a roof cleaning company is, does your roof cleaning service require you to walk on my roof. Walking on your neglected algae, lichen, mold, and moss-infested roof can be costly.

7) The seventh question environmental concern property owners ask a roof cleaning company is, do you capture and contain the roof cleaning waste during the cleaning process to protect the environment. No matter which product or products a roof cleaning company uses, the roof cleaning runoff (waste) should be captured, contained, and removed from the property during the cleaning process.
Roof cleaning can save you money. Reckless roof cleaning can cost you.

Roof Cleaning is Dangerous!
Picture
A Roofer is in the Top 10 Dangerous Jobs!  Walking on algae, ... infested roofs may look bold or manly on roof washers' videos and websites, but roof cleaning is NOT a joke. Roof washers can be seriously injured or killed. In addition, hiring a roof cleaner who does not have a State License, Workers Compensation, and General Liability Insurance can cost you!
Do It Yourself (DIY) Roof Cleaning
Picture
DIY Roof Cleaning: It only takes ONE slip!
Climbing a ladder and walking on an algae-infested roof wearing tennis shoes and carrying a pump sprayer can be the end of your life. Roof cleaning is not just another item you add to your honey-do list. Trying to CLEAN a ROOF after watching a Youtube video or buying a roof cleaning product is ..!
Pressure Washing Roof Shingles
Picture
The roof algae, mold, moss, and lichen growth infestation are between the roof shingle granules. Attempting to remove the infestation growth with low-pressure including roof soft washing, roof shampoo washing, simple beach roof cleaning, or DIY roof cleaning can rip or pull up the algae, mold, moss, and lichen along with the shingle granules.
